Tryon
Known as “The Friendliest Town in the South,” Tryon is a small community with an abundance of rural character. It’s within easy driving of many major population centers: close enough to everything but not too close for comfort. With its unique natural beauty and delightful downtown, Tryon is a great place to live and work. Tryon is the largest town on the Western North Carolina Blue Ridge (if you consider a population of 1,600 large). Thriving small businesses, dynamic civic organizations and an active cultural community have transformed this little stop in the foothills into a 21st-century sanctuary very much in tune with the times.
Numerous authors, artists, and jet-setters have selected Tryon as their getaway and, in some cases, as their home. Some of Tryon’s more famous residents include F. Scott Fitzgerald, First Lady Grace Coolidge, and Tryon’s most celebrated native daughter, Nina Simone, who began her musical career here at a very young age.
Tryon is perhaps best known for its rich equestrian scene; numerous equestrian organizations have bloomed in the area. In 2018, the Tryon International Equestrian Center played host to the FEI World Equestrian Games, the premiere international horseback riding championship.
