Polk County
One of the first things you’ll notice about living in Polk County is the friendliness of the people. Tryon, the county’s largest town (population 1,600) is known as “The Friendliest Town In The South,” but that moniker could be bestowed upon the area as a whole., which is divided into six townships: Columbus, Cooper’s Gap, Green Creek, Saluda, Tryon, and White Oak.
Located in the Thermal Belt, Polk County is known for its mild temperatures, yet experiences all four seasons. Spring and fall are particularly extravagant, and Polk County is a popular fall destination for leaf viewing.
Polk County’s small towns have old-fashioned charm and beauty. Thriving small businesses, dynamic civic organizations and active cultural and equestrian communities make Polk County the perfect to live and work. Numerous equestrian organizations have bloomed in Polk County, with the Tryon International Equestrian Center playing host to the FEI World Equestrian Games, in 2018.
